Studio guide

Frame, canvas, or bare paper — an honest guide.

The three finishes.

One frame profile, three finishes, priced by size: +$42 on a 12×18″, +$62 on an 18×24″, +$92 on a 24×36″. Fitted by hand around the print — no gap-filling, no assembly on your end.

Natural wood

Warm grain, matte seal

Botanicals, landscapes, Americana, and any room with wood tones or linen textures. The finish that disappears into a room and lets the art speak.

Black

Satin black, clean edge

Gothic and dark work, abstracts, typography, and gallery walls that mix several pieces. Black gives mixed art a single, deliberate border.

White

Soft white, satin coat

Coastal pieces, nurseries, pale walls, and rooms built on light neutrals. Keeps bright work airy without a heavy outline.

On mats: our frames are fitted direct-to-print without a mat board. The composition runs edge to edge — the same way the artist finished the file. If you love a matted look, order the unframed print and a local frame shop can mat it to taste.

Which way to hang it.

Framed print

Frame adds $42–$92 by size

  • Arrives ready to hang — hardware fitted, nothing left to buy.
  • The right call for living rooms, entries, and anywhere the piece is the focal point.
  • Protects the paper edges for the long term and reads finished from across the room.
  • Best for the 18×24″ and 24×36″ sizes you plan to keep for years.

Gallery canvas

1.35× the paper price

  • The image wraps the stretcher bars — no glass, no frame required, reads like a painted object.
  • Forgiving in bright rooms: no glazing means no reflections from windows or lamps.
  • Slightly deeper color saturation and a softer, tactile surface up close.
  • A strong pick for abstracts, large statement pieces, and high-traffic walls.

Unframed print

Print only, from $48

  • Ships protected — flat for 12×18″, rolled in a tube for larger sizes.
  • The budget path: source your own frame locally and control the exact look.
  • Also the right answer for dorms, rentals, and anyone who likes to rotate art seasonally.
  • A standard-size frame from any frame shop fits — 12×18″, 18×24″, and 24×36″ are stock sizes.

A frame is not an accessory. It's the border between the art and the room — pick it like it matters, because it does.

Keeping it new for decades.

Archival materials do the heavy lifting. These four habits do the rest.

Keep it out of direct sun

Pigment inks are rated for decades indoors, but a south-facing windowsill will age anything. Give the piece indirect light and it will outlast the sofa under it.

Dust with a dry cloth

A soft, dry microfiber cloth is all a frame or canvas needs. Skip glass cleaner on the frame front and never use water or sprays on the paper or canvas surface.

Let a rolled print relax

A print that shipped in a tube wants a night flat under a few books before framing. Unroll it image-side up, weight the corners gently, and give it 12–24 hours.

Mind the humidity

Bathrooms and damp basements are hard on paper. If a room steams up daily, choose canvas there and keep the paper prints in drier rooms.
